Venom: Let There Be Carnage Opens With $90.1 Million
Heading into this weekend, Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s box office results were estimated to land between $60 million to $70 million during its opening weekend. However, the sequel to Venom far surpassed those expectations. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Let There Be Carnage earned approximately $90.1 million. That’s a record for the pandemic, and surpasses Black Widow‘s $81 million opening.
Unlike Black Widow, Let There Be Carnage had a theatrical exclusive release. It also out-performed the original Venom‘s $80.3 opening from 2018. Additionally, the number 2 film at the box office, The Addams Family 2, opened with $18 million. That helped lift the entire box office to near pre-pandemic levels.

The previous box office champion, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, fell to number 3 with $6 million. That brings its five-week total to $206.1 million. So far, Shang-Chi is also the highest grossing film of the pandemic. However, it remains to be seen if Let There Be Carnage will be able to surpass that total.
One of the challenges facing Let There Be Carnage is the next James Bond film, No Time To Die, which will likely rule the box office next weekend. While Shang-Chi had relatively little competition in September, Halloween Kills and Dune may make the rest of October more competitive.
