The Avengers Face a Bloody Nightmare on Blood Hunt #2 Cover

Marvel Comics has revealed the official cover art for the upcoming second issue of Blood Hunt by Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz.

MacKay and Larraz’s five-issue Blood Hunt event series launches on Wednesday, May 1. Its second issue arrives in comic shops three weeks later. Larraz’s main cover for Blood Hunt #2 finds four major members of the Avengers — namely, Captain Marvel, Captain America, Vision, and Iron Man — backed into a corner, desperately trying to prevent a horde of vampires from turning them into lunch.

An official synopsis for Blood Hunt #2 reads as follows: “The vampires’ first strike has laid low the world, and their endless legions run riot across the planet. The broken Avengers join the fighters of the Midnight Mission and unlikely allies Bloodline and Dracula in seeking out the one man who can do something about this: Doctor Strange. But after the apocalyptic events of BLOOD HUNT #1, what is left of Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme?”

Jed MacKay talks Blood Hunt

“I think vampires are a very fun part of the Marvel Universe,” MacKay said. “You can enjoy them on a surface level as adding a little spookiness to a book, or you can get as deep as you like into the long-running Marvel history of vampires, which is as elaborate as any other part of it (and the fact that Dracula is there is a source of endless delight)! BLOOD HUNT is just the latest chapter in the long-running vampire mythos of Marvel vampires — and they’re stepping out of the darkness in a big way.”

“Much like CIVIL WAR and SECRET INVASION, BLOOD HUNT is a story that has been naturally building across Marvel’s comics over the last few years (and some even older stories), and it all comes to a head this May as Jed connects all the dots,” Marvel editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski added. “As the series unfolds, readers will be able to uncover clues and go back and put the pieces together to see just how high the stakes are for our beloved characters. Pun intended.”

In addition to MacKay and Larraz’s main series, the vampire-centric saga will play out in a Free Comic Book Day special, eight tie-in limited series, six tie-in one-shots, and 16 tie-in issues of existing series.

Blood Hunt #2 goes on sale Wednesday, May 22 from Marvel Comics.
