Marvel Announces New Era of Amazing Spider-Man

Recently, Peter Parker faced new challenges as part of the One World Under Doom event. However, he’ll return back to basics in a new Amazing Spider-Man series. Marvel Comics is rebooting their flagship title with a new #1 issue and a new artist.

The next era of Spider-Man begins with author Joe Kelly still scripting the wall-crawler’s adventures. He will be joined on the monthly title by Pepe Larraz, best known for their recent work on Blood Hunt and X-Men. However, the new series will also feature art by the legendary John Romita Jr.

As the new Amazing Spider-Man opens, Peter is once again unemployed and out of luck. His job search is interrupted by the return of the Rhino. However, this battle leads Peter to discover that an old enemy is weaponizing other Spider-Villains. This, coupled with Peter’s worries regarding an allegedly reformed Norman Osborn, leave the Amazing Spider-Man with an overstuffed plate.

New Amazing Spider-Man to focus on Peter Parker

“Even though this is a new #1, I don’t think of it as a ‘restart’ per se,” Kelly explained in an interview with Polygon. “I’m writing the next chapter of the story of one the world’s greatest characters, lucky enough to follow in the footsteps of the folks before me. After that sinks in, I spend a lot of time thinking about what I love about Spider-Man and his cast, what stories resonated with me at different times of my life, and how I can synthesize all of that into something that works with what came before but breaks new ground. I feel a drive to take bold, unexpected swings in order to see how Spider-Man deals with Marvel-sized curve balls. Pressure makes diamonds.”

Larraz agreed, adding that the most important aspect of Amazing Spider-Man was capturing Peter Parker. “Of course I can talk about drawing a believable New York, I shot hundreds of pictures of details of the city for reference, or how I’ve focused on drawing the flow of Spidey’s movement and speed in a way closer to animation than comics. But I think Spider-Man comics work because we care about Peter and his world, so that was my main focus: To draw a Peter that you instantly recognize and empathize [with].”

Amazing Spider-Man #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on April 9. 2025.
