LEGO Announces Batman: The Animated Series Set

LEGO has announced a new set based on the beloved 1990s cartoon, Batman: The Animated Series.

On the official LEGO website, master builders can currently view the upcoming set, titled Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City, which will be released on April 4, 2024. This set includes more than 4200 pieces, measures over 30 inches wide, and is intended for ages 18+.

Batman fans can also look forward to several hidden details in the Gotham City skyline set, such as removable panels that reveal the inside of Wayne Manor, the Batcave, and Arkham Asylum.

The set also includes four minifigures — Batman, The Joker, Harley Quinn, and Catwoman — all based on their animated look, as well as a movable Batmobile and Batwing. The assembled model, which can be viewed below, can either be mounted on the wall or stood on a surface using a flip-out stand.

Batman: The Animated Series launched the DCAU

Created by Bruce W. Timm, Paul Dini, and Mitch Brian, Batman: The Animated Series aired on Fox Kids from September 1992 to September 1995, running for two seasons and 85 episodes. Kevin Conroy led the voice cast for Batman as the titular Gotham-based vigilante. The actor, whose performance as Batman was praised by both fans and critics, would go on to reprise the role across the other DC Animated Universe projects, including Batman Beyond (1999-2001), Justice League (2001-2004), and Justice League Unlimited (2004-2006), among others.

The main voice cast also included Loren Lester as Dick Grayson/Robin, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as Alfred Pennyworth, Bob Hastings as Commissioner James Gordon, and Robert Costanzo as Detective Harvey Bullock, with Mark Hamill making recurring appearances as the Joker.

Batman: The Animated Series is also notable for the groundbreaking changes it made to the Batman mythos, such as redefining Mr. Freeze as a tragic villain and adding Harley Quinn as the Joker’s love interest/sidekick. The latter, who was voiced by Arleen Sorkin, proved so popular that she was later added to the comics and has since appeared in several other Batman adaptations.

Batman: The Animated Series is currently streaming on Max.
