Jeff Goldblum is Playing Zeus in Netflix’s Kaos Series

This year has already given us one lighthearted depiction of Zeus thanks to Russell Crowe’s oddball performance in Thor: Love and Thunder. But now, another veteran of Marvel’s Thor films is trying out the role for himself. Deadline brings word that Jeff Goldblum, fresh off his recent appearance in Jurassic World Dominion, will play the Greek gods’ “vengeful” king in the upcoming Netflix series, Kaos.

Kaos hails from creator Charlie Covell, who previously wrote all 16 episodes of Netflix’s The End of the F***ing World. Although Goldblum may seem an unconventional choice to embody the ruler of Olympus, rest assured that this isn’t your average godly tale. The series promises to deliver a “darkly comic” and “contemporary” spin on Greek mythology—so much so, in fact, that the gods will reportedly be trading in their togas for tracksuits. Originally, Hugh Grant signed on to play Zeus on the show last month. But he was forced to drop out over scheduling conflicts.

Goldblum’s Zeus is described as “seemingly all-powerful,” but “desperately insecure” as well. After waking up one morning with a wrinkle on his forehead, he begins to see signs of his downfall everywhere he goes, which puts him on a “paranoid path” of self-destruction. Along the way, Zeus will encounter other arrogant gods like Hades (David Thewlis) and Poseidon (Cliff Curtis). Even Zeus’ own wife, Hera (Janet McTeer) and son, Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan) give him resistance. But he must also contend with a group of mortals – Riddy (Aurora Perrineau), Orpheus (Killian Scott), Caneus (Misia Butler), and Ari (Leila Farzad) – who challenge his rule. So essentially, it sounds like The Boys meets Clash of the Titans.

Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for Kaos. Production will reportedly begin this summer.
