Eternals and Inhumans’ MCU Return Get Hopeful Update From Kevin Feige

While it is currently unknown when the Eternals and Inhumans will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe again, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige remains hopeful that fans haven’t seen the last of either superhero team.

Marvel Studios was recently part of D23 Brazil, where the company showcased several of its upcoming projects, such as Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and What If…? Season 3. However, after Marvel’s panel was done, Feige took part in several interviews, where he touched on projects that were not promoted at D23 like the long-gestating Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali.

Speaking with CinePop (via ComicBookMovie.com), Feige addressed whether fans would see the Eternals or Inhumans again in the MCU given that neither of the teams’ previous projects were well-received critically or commercially. Despite the poor reception of 2021’s Eternals, Feige admitted that he was “very proud of that movie” and that Marvel would “be lucky to get any of them at some point,” referencing the movie’s all-star ensemble cast that included big names like Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, Barry Keoghan, Salma Hayek, and Kumail Nanjiani.

As for Inhumans, Feige pointed out that Anson Mount returned for a cameo as Black Bolt in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but as for the rest of the team, the Marvel boss only said, “We’ll see where, if, and when they return.”

Eternals 2 was teased at the end of the first movie

Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals focused on the titular immortal alien beings who emerge from hiding after thousands of years to protect Earth from their ancient counterparts, the Deviants. The 2021 movie ended on quite the cliffhanger, with Sersi (Gemma Chan), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), and Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) being taken by the Celestial Arishem into a singularity, vowing judgment if the Eternals’ memories don’t show that humans are worthy of living.

Eternals’ two credits scenes also teased future projects that have yet to materialize, with the mid-credits scene introducing Harry Styles’ Eternal Eros and his assistant Pip the Troll (Patton Oswalt), while the post-credits scene teased Dane Whitman’s (Kit Harington) transformation into the superhero Black Knight. Mahershala Ali also made an uncredited vocal cameo in that credits scene as Blade.

Eternals, ABC’s Inhumans series, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are available to stream on Disney+.
