Superman: Amy Adams Reacts to Rachel Brosnahan Playing DCU’s Lois Lane

While Amy Adams‘ time in the DC Universe is over, the Lois Lane actor is looking forward to seeing her successor, Rachel Brosnahan, next year in James Gunn‘s Superman.

Adams made her first appearance as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane in Zack Snyder’s 2013 movie, Man of Steel, the first installment in the DC Extended Universe. She then reprised the role an additional two times: first in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then in 2017’s Justice League. She also appeared in the latter film’s 2021 director’s cut, Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Following the conclusion of the DCEU in 2023, DC Studios is set to launch a new shared universe, simply titled DC Universe, this December. The adult animated series Creature Commandos will be the first installment in the DCU, with Gunn’s hotly-anticipated Superman reboot set to be the second entry. With the majority of DCEU actors not returning for the DCU, the roles of Superman and Lois Lane have been recast, with David Corenswet and Brosnahan succeeding Henry Cavill and Adams, respectively.

What did Amy Adams say about Rachel Brosnahan succeeding her as Lois Lane?

In an interview with Variety as part of her Power of Women cover story, Adams opened up about her time in the DCEU, revealing, “I’m just a big fan of the franchise, always.” As for how she felt about Brosnahan replacing her as Lois Lane, Adams couldn’t be happier with Gunn’s choice for her successor, saying, “I love her. She’s gonna be great. Hopefully the role will be infused with her sensibility and her natural humor and strength and wit. I’m really looking forward to it. I really like her.”

Adams also explained that she always knew she wouldn’t be playing Lois Lane for the rest of her career, noting, “Coming from theater, a role never belongs to you. You just do a take on it. That’s how I feel about that franchise.”

Written and directed by Gunn, Superman will be the first theatrical installment in the DCU. Besides Corenswet and Brosnahan, other cast members for the superhero movie include Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White, among others.

Superman is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
