Surprise! New Shazam! Fury of the Gods Action Figures

This is certainly a choice. McFarlane Toys didn’t do much with Shazam! Fury of the Gods figure-wise, when it actually came out, offered one figure of Shazam himself and a Wonder Woman variant. Now that it has come and gone but remains unfairly maligned, with a new DC cinematic universe about to begin, seems an odd time to release a new two-pack. Perhaps there’s a massive, untapped Adam Brody fanbase out there that will rally to the preorders.

Ready for Freddy?

So maybe there’s more of a market for the Amazon-exclusive Shazam and Freddy Freeman two-pack than would initially appear to meet the eye. Certainly, fans of movie figures in general, and the “Snyderverse” in particular, ought to be happy to have one more member of the Marvel family in toy form. Plus Mr. Mind! The diminutive insect supervillain from the credits scenes comes in the set as a very tiny accessory — along with the more significant wizard’s staff.

Shazam himself, a.k.a. Billy Batson, a.k.a. Captain Sparklefingers, differs primarily in that he has black burn marks on his costume. his cape is completely untouched white, however, which spoils the effect a bit. Foster brother Freddy Freeman appears in his super-suited alter-ego of “Captain Everypower” (it’s a work in progress). From the official pictures, they seem to use the same base body and come with multiple hands that either one could use. They also include trading cards with movie-inspired artwork and a simulated rock base,

There are plenty of cool-looking characters in the movie that could be toys, but making a repaint set is safe and spreads the cost of tooling out between three figures. Don’t expect a build-a-unicorn wave or Rachel Zegler figure to follow, though. Not for this movie, anyway. Ms. Zegler and unicorns both seem likely to appear in other popular, toyetic films down the line.

Take a look at the official Billy/Freddy 2-pack images below.
