Per What’s On Disney Plus, Marvel Studios has confirmed a holiday season release date for What If…? Season 2. The exact release date has not yet been set, though this means the season premiere will likely debut before January 1, 2024.
“The Watcher continues the journey as our guide through the vast multiverse, introducing brand-new and familiar faces throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” a new synopsis reads. “The animated anthology series questions, revisits, and twists classic Marvel Cinematic moments with an incredible voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their iconic roles.”
What else do we know about What If…?’s second season?
In July 2022, per /Film, Marvel Studios showed off the first episode of What If…?’s second season, titled “What If… Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper?,” at San Diego Comic-Con.
In March 2023, Marvel also announced a separate episode, written by Ryan Little, of the upcoming season of What If…? will focus on a Mohawk woman named Kahhori in a reality where the Tesseract fell to Earth before the colonization of America.
“I had a wonderful writing mentor who worked extensively with the Indigenous community in upstate New York, and I was excited to draw on that experience to build an entirely original corner of the MCU with storylines for new Indigenous heroes written from a place of respect for past generations and optimism for future ones. Kahhori, pronounced ‘KAH-HORTI,’ is a real, Wolf Clan name, meaning ‘she stirs the forest’ or is someone who motivates those around her,” Little previously told Marvel.com “In her debut adventure, Kahhori will have to live up to her name to recruit powerful allies into the fight to save her people and change the course of history forever.”
Season two of What If…? will include nine episodes. A third season is already in development.
