Stephanie March Cast as Lady Akira on The CW’s Naomi

Though the series is far enough into production that we’ve seen clips, The CW’s latest superhero show Naomi is apparently still adding cast. The newest announcement, courtesy of Deadline, sees Stephanie March added to the lineup as Lady Akira. While Deadline simply refers to the character as “from a planet far away,” readers of the comic will know that she proves much more significant than that in Naomi’s story.

March is best known as attorney Alexandra Cabot on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the spin-off Conviction. She also played Ivanka Trump in a TV movie, and Mayor Carol Blanton on Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter. Without spoiling too much for anyone who hasn’t read Naomi comics, her character Akira ties into the whole multiverse concept, as well as arch-villain Zumbado (Cranston Johnson). Though the show will likely make some significant plot changes, so it’s hard to tell how much.

Kaci Walfall stars as Naomi, a superhero comics fangirl whose life is changed when the action comes to her hometown. Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker and illustrator Jamal Campbell originally created the character for DC Comics. The show premieres Jan 11 on The CW. Given that the multiverse figures into the overall plot, it’s not clear yet whether or not the show takes place either partly or fully in the DC “Arrowverse.”
