This weekend, Showtime will bring viewers back into the world of Penny Dreadful with its spiritual successor, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. However, you don’t have to wait until Sunday to catch the pilot episode. Showtime has already released the first episode of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels on YouTube.
At the heart of the series is the battle between two supernatural sisters: Santa Muerte (Lorenza Izzo) and the seemingly demonic Magda (Natalie Dormer). But this conflict is set against the racial tensions of Los Angeles in 1938. Meanwhile, Daniel Zovatto’s Detective Tiago Vega is walking a tightrope between his loyalties to the Hispanic community and his brothers in blue. Additionally, Nathan Lane co-stars in the series as Vega’s partner, Detective Lewis Michener. Regardless of Vega and Michener’s best efforts, LA is a powder keg just waiting to blow up. And Magda also plans to be the one who lights the spark.
