Warning: there are spoilers ahead for the first season of The Witcher!
The Witcher followed the stories of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer and Ciri. However, their respective tales didn’t unfold at the same time. Naturally, this confused some viewers. IGN attempted to go into more detail in a lengthy timeline breakdown. Now, Netflix has done their part by providing a useful visual that’s easier to follow.

Chronologically, The Witcher’s story doesn’t actually begin with Geralt. Instead, it starts with Yennefer being sold to Aretuza in the year 1210. Shortly after, she goes through her transformation.

A little while later, Geralt becomes the Butcher of Blaviken, which is where the first episode of the series begins. Other events follow shortly thereafter, such as Yennefer turning rogue following the assassination of her Queen. But the timeline eventually concludes just after 1263, when Geralt finally meets Ciri for the first time.
It may be a bit confusing at first, but it does make sense in the end. Episode 4 provides a clear indication that the three stories aren’t happening at the same time.
The Witcher’s first season is currently available on Netflix. A second season is in the works. The showrunners have already said its story will be “more focused.”
