Crisis on Infinite Earths Cast Reacts To Brandon Routh’s Superman
13 years ago, Brandon Routh portrayed the Man of Steel in Superman Returns. However, that film’s disappointing box office meant that he couldn’t reprise his role…until now. Next week, in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, Routh will not only play Ray Palmer/The Atom, he will also appear as the Kingdom Come Superman. Thus far, the fan reactions to Routh’s return have been very positive. But it apparently left an even bigger impression on Routh’s Crisis co-stars.
Arrow co-star David Ramsey told TV Guide that “everybody just gasped” when Routh came out in costume as Superman.
“Brandon looked like a Greek God. He looked like 6’6” or 6’7”, muscles everywhere, a little grey in his hair. It was just perfect. And he just had this thing about him. His hands were always on his hips. He was golden era Superman… You think about Superman and if you say the words super man — he looked like a super man… Your eyes just couldn’t get off of Brandon.”

The Flash‘s Carlos Valdes revealed that the cast took to calling Routh “Super Brandon.” He also noted what it meant to Routh to get a second chance at playing Superman.
“It’s super weird but also really gratifying to watch him play these two characters,” said Valdes. “It means a lot, not just for the fans and the writers, but also for Brandon himself. I think that’s part of what fascinates me about him playing these two characters is that I have to imagine there’s a personal component as well. I’m just sort of caught in all the different imaginings of what this must mean for him to revisit that character while also playing out the rest of this character.”
Supergirl will kick off Crisis on Infinite Earths on Sunday, December 8. The second part will unfold in Batwoman on Monday, December 9. Meanwhile, The Flash will feature the third part on Tuesday, December 10. Then on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will wrap up the crossover.
