Adam Hugill Cast in BBC America’s ‘The Watch’ Series

Earlier this year, Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel, Good Omens, was adapted by Amazon. Now, BBC America is turning its attention to Pratchett’s best-known solo work. Via Deadline, BBC America has cast Adam Hugill in The Watch, a new series based on Pratchett’s Discworld novels. Hugill has been tapped to star as Carrot Ironfoundersson.

Hugill hasn’t been in the acting game for very long. In fact, he made his onscreen debut this year in the pilot episode of Epix’s Pennyworth, where he played a junior detective named Jack. He also starred in a short film/music video (pictured top left) for The Blinders. Hugill also has a few other jobs lined up for the coming year. That includes Hugill’s role in director Sam Mendes’ World War I drama, 1917.

Pratchett published the first Discworld novel, The Color of Magic, in 1983. The books take place on a flat world that sits on the backs of four elephants, who also stand on a giant turtle’s shell. One way the series stands out is through Pratchett’s avoidance of conventional chapter divisions in favor of criss-crossing storylines. Some of these stories feature the City Watch, a police force tasked with watching over the city of Ankh-Morpork. These procedural tales will also serve as the inspiration for The Watch. In the books, Carrot is a human raised by dwarves who eventually leaves his adoptive family to join the police.

The upcoming BBC series is described as a “punk rock thriller” and will also feature other familiar characters like Captain Sam Vimes, Lady Sybil, Angua, Cheri, and Death. Writer Simon Allen is spearheading The Watch; which will be co-produced by BBC Studios and Pratchett’s production company Narrativia.
