Following the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max, several fans have been calling on Warner Bros. to “Restore the SnyderVerse” and let the director make the sequels he was planning. Instead, the studio appears to be moving forward with their less-cohesive plans for the DC Extended Universe. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. But what is surprising is that despite all the hard work he put into finishing his four-hour cut Justice League, Snyder sounds like he’s ready to make a clean break with WB.
Snyder hasn’t been shy about expressing his frustration with the studio in recent weeks. While speaking with Jake’s Takes a few days ago, he claimed that Warner Bros. was “aggressively anti-Snyder.” But in a new interview with Uproxx, he went so far as to say the studio “tortured” him.
“It was cool to do the Snyder Cut of Justice League and that was fun and everything,” said Snyder. “But Warner Bros. still tortured me the whole time for whatever reason, they can’t help it. I don’t know why I’m such a f***ing pain in their ass because I’m not trying to be, honestly.”

Snyder’s comments shouldn’t be taken lightly, since every single one of his movies since 300 has been distributed by WB. Regardless, he doesn’t seem too worried about burning that bridge. When asked if he’s concerned about other studios refusing to work with him for fear of getting on his bad side, he insisted that that’s unlikely to happen. For proof of this, he cited his more positive experience with Netflix on Army of the Dead.
“Well, I just don’t know who would ever end up on the other end?” added Snyder. “If you analyze what’s happened with Warner Bros., it’s not a normal situation. It’s a once-in-a-generation bizarro situation! I just had an amazing experience with Netflix and it was awesome and we had a great partnership and an incredibly great experience. So the only thing I would say is that it’s an unusual situation.”
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is currently streaming on HBO Max. Netflix will release Army of the Dead on May 21.
