The eternal struggle between Autobots and Decepticons has found a new home… no, not Earth, The Cartoon Network, which announced it will be carrying the new animated series “Transformers: Robots in Disguise.”
The show was originally intended to air on Hub, which “Transformers” property owner Hasbro owned a stake in, until co-owner Discovery Communications bought up a large portion of Hasbro’s shares and rebranded the channel Discovery Family. Stephen Davis, president of Hasbro Studios, indicated that the move did not show a lack of faith in Discovery Family but was merely programmed to suit demographics.
“We are 100% committed to our joint venture with Discovery,” Davis said. “We see that (Hub’s) kids schedule has traditionally skewed towards girls while Transformers is a very boy-centric show.”
This is something of a return to home for the franchise, since Cartoon Network has aired many “Transformers” series since it began showing season 2 of “Beast Wars” during its Toonami block of programming in 1998. “Transformers: Robots in Disguise,” which follows the events of recent series “Transformers Prime,” centers on Bumblebee stepping in for Optimus Prime as leader of the Autobots on a mission to save Earth from a new faction of Decepticons. It will air sometime in the spring of 2015.
