Paramount Delays Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Reschedules New Star Trek Movie

Transformers fans will have to wait another year to see the robots in disguise return to the big screen. According to Deadline, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts isn’t going to make its previously-announced release date of June 24, 2022. Instead, Paramount will release the film almost a full year later on June 9, 2023.

The studio was originally saving that date for their next theatrical Star Trek entry. But with Transformers now occupying that spot, the as-yet-untitled Trek film is moving to December 22, 2023.

Rise of the Beasts officially wrapped filming last month with Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. at the helm. The movie will pick up after the events of 2018’s Bumblebee and introduce Anthony Ramos as the franchise’s newest hero. Taking place in 1994, the film will feature a number of familiar Autobots, with Peter Cullen’s Optimus Prime back at the forefront of the series. However, the film will also mark the live-action debut of characters from Hasbro’s Beast Wars line, including several Predacons and Maximals.

Meanwhile, Paramount’s next Star Trek movie has been plagued by numerous setbacks ever since Star Trek Beyond hit theaters in 2016. Matt Shakman, who made a big splash as the director of Marvel’s WandaVision earlier this year, was announced as the film’s director back in July. Last we heard, Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson were writing the script. It remains to be seen whether the movie will feature the return of the Kelvin timeline cast led by Chris Pine’s James T. Kirk. But it’s worth mentioning that the film is now scheduled to come out on the same day as Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, whose production was also recently delayed. Disney has yet to move that film from its day.
