New Thunderbolts* Images Preview Upcoming MCU Movie

Four new images from Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* have been revealed, offering fans a new look at the hotly-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster.

What is revealed in the new Thunderbolts* images?

Released as part of Entertainment Weekly’s 2025 Preview series, three of the four Thunderbolts* images feature the titular team, which will be largely comprised of anti-heroes and reformed villains, such as Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Wyatt Russell’s John Walker/U.S. Agent. Interestingly, one of the images shows the Thunderbolts standing beside Bob/Sentry, played by Lewis Pullman, who many fans have speculated will serve as one of the antagonists of the movie.

Another image shows the team surrounding Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in the Avengers Tower, a scene that was shown in the D23 Brazil trailer for the movie, while a third sees Red Guardian (David Harbour), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), U.S. Agent, and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) restrained by Bucky, who is on the phone with an unknown party. The last image features Valentina and Chris Bauer’s undisclosed character.

Besides the announced cast, Marvel Studios has largely kept Thunderbolts* shrouded in mystery, with fans being kept in the dark about details such as why the team was brought together and why an asterisk was added to the end of the title. Jake Schreier directs the blockbuster, which will be the sixth and final movie released during Phase 5 of the MCU, from a screenplay written by Eric Pearson, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo.

Besides the aforementioned actors, the Thunderbolts* cast includes Geraldine Viswanathan as Mel and Wendell Edward Pierce in an undisclosed role. Laurence Fishburne and Rachel Weisz are also expected to reprise their respective roles as Bill Foster and Melina Vostokoff from Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and Black Widow (2021).

Thunderbolts* is scheduled to open in theaters on May 2, 2025.
