Thunderbolts* Star Promises ‘a Different Ghost’ in MCU Movie

Actor Hannah John-Kamen has revealed that Marvel Cinematic Universe fans shouldn’t expect to see the same Ghost that appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp in Thunderbolts*.

When did fans last see Ghost in the MCU?

John-Kamen made her MCU debut in the 2018 movie Ant-Man and the Wasp, appearing as Ava Starr/Ghost, a woman who gained invisibility and intangibility powers after being caught in a laboratory accident that left her body in a constant state of molecular disequilibrium. Upon learning that Janet van Dyne’s body absorbed energy from the Quantum Realm, she comes into conflict with Ant-Man, Wasp, and Hank Pym. After battling, Janet willingly uses some of her Quantum energy to stabilize Starr’s condition. With Starr now able to better control her abilities, John-Kamen revealed that an entirely new side of Ghost will be brought to the forefront in Thunderbolts*.

“The last time you saw her, she was volcanic. She was flickering to death and she was in pain,” John-Kamen told The Manila Times (via X). “Now she has control of that. With that, there’s a calm, and there’s a decisiveness, and there’s a powerful breath and beat in that. So yes, you’ll see a different Ghost.”

John-Kamen’s Ghost will be part of the initial lineup for the Thunderbolts*, appearing on the team alongside Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko’s Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, and Wyatt Russell’s John Walker/U.S. Agent. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the current director of the CIA in the MCU, and Lewis Pullman’s Bob/Sentry round out the main cast for the movie.

Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, and Wendell Edward Pierce also appear in Thunderbolts*, while Laurence Fishburne and Rachel Weisz are expected to reprise their respective roles as Bill Foster and Melina Vostokoff from Ant-Man and the Wasp and Black Widow.

Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts* is scheduled to open in theaters on May 2, 2025, as part of Phase 5 of the MCU.
