Sam Rockwell is more than willing to reprise his role as Justin Hammer in Marvel’s Armor Wars.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Rockwell was asked if there’s any truth to online rumors suggesting his MCU character may return for Marvel’s Armor Wars.
“I’m waiting for the phone call,” Rockwell said. “I haven’t gotten the phone call.”
Rockwell later added, “Listen, I’m in, dude. Let’s go.”
Rockwell played the antagonist Justin Hammer in 2010’s Iron Man 2, which was directed by Jon Favreau and also starred Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, and Mickey Rourke.
He reprised the role for a cameo in the 2014 Marvel short film All Hail the King and also returned to voice the character in the “What If…Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?” episode featured in the second season of Marvel’s animated What If…? series.
What do we know about Marvel’s Armor Wars?
Armor Wars was initially announced in December 2022. At the time, it was intended to be a television series that would debut on the Disney+ streaming service; however, Marvel Studios opted to redevelop the title into a feature film in September 2022.
Producer Nate Moore addressed why Armor Wars is now a movie in November 2022, as he told The Town podcast, via Collider, “I mean in that case, there were some great ideas that were coming out for that show, but that, to be quite honest, felt too big for that show. You know, our Disney+ shows are awesome, and we love them. But the budgets are not the same as the features, that’s no secret. And when you’re talking about a show that wants to be about seeing all the cool armors and, you know, Don Cheadle interacting with all these armors and sort of the legacy of Tony Stark, that became kind of cost prohibitive to do as a show.
“And we realized as a feature, not only can we get into some of the beautiful imagery that is from publishing, and there’s certainly an Armor Wars run. But also there are ways then to leverage the ideas of that movie and affect other movies down the line.”
There’s been little news about Armor Wars since then. Armor Wars does not have a release date from Marvel.
