Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts movie will begin filming in about a month, according to Sebastian Stan.
Speaking with Variety, Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, gave a brief update on the status of the upcoming Thunderbolts movie.
“I’m excited,” Stan said. I’m going to go back basically in a month or so. I’ve missed it. It’s a great cast. The batting average [for Marvel] is so high that it’s difficult to always land everything right away. It’s always been a great experience. With this one in particular, I think there’s a lot of good things.”
Who else stars in Marvel’s Thunderbolts?
Announced in June 2022, Thunderbolts will star Stan, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shstakov/Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Additionally, Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross after he first plays the character in Captain America: Brave New World, which releases on February 14, 2025. The Bear and Bottom’s Ayo Edebiri has also been cast in the movie in an undisclosed role.
Steven Yeun was previously reported to be playing Bob Reynolds/The Sentry in the MCU film; however, he announced he was no longer attached to the project earlier this month because of scheduling conflicts.
Thunderbolts is being directed by Jake Schreier. Prior to this, Schreier directed 2012’s Robot & Frank, 2015’s Paper Towns, and 2021’s Chance the Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring World. He also helmed several episodes of Netflix’s Beef and is attached as a director to the upcoming Star Wars: Skeleton Crew 2024 series.
Production on Thunderbolts was originally intended to begin in June 2023; however, filming was delayed because of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes.
Thunderbolts releases in United States theaters on July 25, 2025.
