Rebel Moon’s Charlie Hunnam could have potentially starred as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in Zack Snyder’s DCEU; however, he turned down the opportunity to do so after looking at just one picture of the character.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Hunnam was asked if he ever spoke with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s Zack Snyder about potentially playing Green Arrow in a DCEU project.
“I never talked to Zack about it,” Hunnam said.
When asked if there were others who he did discuss the matter with, Hunnam responded, “It was some people in suits [who] brought the idea to me and thought it would be terribly exciting for me to play Green Arrow, and I did not share their enthusiasm.”
He continued, “I don’t know who Green Arrow is so I don’t want to offend anyone. I looked at one picture and I was like, ‘I’m not sure green’s my color and I’m pretty sure spandex isn’t my material.’ Beyond that, I was like, one image, ‘Thanks, not interested.'”

Hunnam is best known for playing Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller in FX’s Sons of Anarchy. He additionally starred in 2006’s Children of Men, 2013’s Pacific Rim, 2017’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and 2019’s The Gentlemen, among other titles.
While Snyder’s DCEU officially ends in the coming weeks following the release of December 22’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Rebel Moon (also known as Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire) is coming to Netflix on December 21, 2023. Along with Hunnam, the Snyder-directed movie stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Michiel Huisman, Ray Fisher, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Skrein, Jena Malone, Far Free, and more.
A sequel, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, is planned for April 19, 2024.
