Ryan Reynolds Mocks Deadpool 3 Leaks With Clearly Doctored Photos

Leaked photos from the set of Deadpool 3 have become a major problem for Ryan Reynolds. With the actor’s previous comments about spoiling the surprise apparently being ignored, Reynolds has fired back. In a response worthy of Deadpool himself, Reynolds leaked several clearly fake set photos on social media.

The photos, first posted to Reynolds’ personal Twitter, depict a number of “surprise” Deadpool 3 cameos. Chief among these are appearances by a Predator, Mickey Mouse, and Steve Urkel from Family Matters. There is also a photo depicting what appears to be a stone ruin made from the logo of the now defunct Quibi streaming platform.

Deadpool fans followed suit, creating their own fake Deadpool 3 set photos and posting them to #DeadpoolLeaks, #DeadpoolSpoilers, and #DeadpoolScoop. This resulted in a plethora of faked images and AI artwork, with subjects ranging from Taylor Swift as Lady Deadpool to the Merc with the Mouth fighting John Wick and Godzilla.

Deadpool Franchise Began With a Leak

As Ryan Reynolds notes in his post, the first Deadpool film was only made because of a leak. The trailer Reynolds produced after a decade of failure to sell studios on the character somehow got leaked online. It became an instant viral sensation, leading to Fox green-lightning the film based on the fan response. This, in turn, led to the first Deadpool movie becoming one of the biggest blockbusters of 2016.

Reynolds’ mock Deadpool 3 set photo leaks seem intended to draw upon the same spirit that led to Deadpool being made. The clearly faked photos speak to Reynolds’ famed sense of humor and tongue-in-cheek biting of the hand that feeds him. Reynolds is also engaging the fan base, encouraging their own creativity, and continuing to build interest in Deadpool 3.

Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool 3 is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
