X-Men’s Simon Kinberg has some advice for Marvel when it comes to introducing mutants into the MCU.
Speaking with SlashFilm, Kinberg shared some thoughts about Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. “If I had one piece of advice, honestly, it is a very cliché thing, but it just is true: The strength of the X-Men is the characters,” he said. “As much as there’s great storytelling and great plot and incredible action sequences and all of those things are going to be required of the movies, as they are in the comics, what sets, for me, the X-Men apart is that they are the richest collection of characters in any comic book ever.”
Kinberg continued, “So it’s really about the characters that will get you the best actors. Those actors will bring those characters to life in a whole new way that honestly I cannot wait to see. I really am such a fan of what Marvel does and I’m obviously a massive, massive fan of the X-Men. Like the Star Wars movies. I read two comics when I was growing up religiously. I read others, but the religious ones were for me, Batman and X-Men.”

Kinberg became involved with 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise in 2006 when he co-wrote X-Men: The Last Stand. He also wrote the screenplay for 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past and 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, both of which he also produced. Additionally, Kinberg produced 2011’s X-Men: First Class, 2016’s Deadpool, 2017’s Logan, 2018’s Deadpool 2, and 2020’s The New Mutants. In 2019, Kinberg made his feature film directorial debut with Dark Phoenix, which he also wrote and produced.
On September 29, 2023, Marvel Studios began setting up meetings with writers to accept pitches for an X-Men movie. While Deadpool 3 will formally introduce Wade Wilson, Wolverine, and others into the MCU, the end of the 2022 Ms. Marvel miniseries revealed that Kamala Khan is a mutant.
