Chris Hemsworth on Thor 4: MCU Sequel ‘Became Too Silly’

Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Hemsworth has stated that the most recent Thor sequel “became a bit too silly.”

Did Chris Hemsworth say Thor: Love and Thunder was “too silly?”

In an interview with GQ, Hemsworth came to the topic of Marvel movies and recalled his kids’ friends critiquing Thor: Love and Thunder.

“It’s a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film,” he said. “‘We thought this one had too much humor, the action was cool, but the VFX weren’t as good.’ I cringe and laugh equally at it.”

The star then looked back on the tone of the movie and noted that it’s difficult to have perspective when at the center of a film.

“I think we just had too much fun,” Hemsworth explained. “It just became too silly. It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective … I love the process; it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”

“The fourth installment finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced — a quest for inner peace,” reads the Marvel Studios sequel’s synopsis. “But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods,” says the synopsis. “To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who — to Thor’s surprise — inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”
