Junkie XL’s New Justice League Score Arrives on March 18

With a four-hour runtime, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is expected to feature a lot of new music courtesy of Tom Holkenborg. Better known as Junkie XL, he was Snyder’s original choice to score the film before the director stepped down in 2017. Once Joss Whedon took over the project, he ultimately replaced Holkenborg with Danny Elfman. Suffice it to say, Holkenborg is going to be bringing a different flavor to Justice League’s musical backdrop, and fans will be able to sample the full breadth of his contributions later this month.

Earlier today, Holkenborg officially unveiled “Middle Mass,” a new selection from his Justice League score. This is only the second offering we’ve heard from the film’s upcoming soundtrack. Previously, “The Crew at Warpower” hit streaming platforms last month, and there’s plenty more where that came from. Holkenborg also divulged that his full soundtrack contains a whopping 54 tracks. It will be released on March 18, the same day that Zack Snyder’s Justice League arrives on HBO Max. You can check out all of Holkenborg’s announcements below.

Holkenborg also appeared on the Film Junkee podcast last month to discuss his work on Snyder’s movie. During their conversation, he revealed that his new score is four hours and 20 minutes long, essentially dwarfing most major superhero movie soundtracks. For comparison, Alan Silvestri’s score for Avengers: Endgame consisted of 35 tracks lasting just under two hours. At this point, we still don’t know if WarnerMedia is plotting a special vinyl release for Holkenborg’s music. But this idea already has Snyder’s seal of approval.
