One of the original Agents is going back into The Matrix. According to Deadline, actor and stuntman, Daniel Bernhardt, has been signed to return for The Matrix 4. Bernhardt played Agent Johnson in The Matrix Reloaded and the video game, Enter the Matrix.
Previously, Bernhardt had supporting roles in Altered Carbon and Barry. His acting credits also include Logan, Hobbs & Shaw, and Birds of Prey.
Bernhardt’s Agent Johnson first appeared after Hugo Weaving’s Agent Smith was defeated in the first film. Smith returned as a greater threat to both the Machines and the human resistance in both Matrix sequels. Weaving recently revealed he was not asked to return for The Matrix 4. Director Lana Wachowski also declined to ask Laurence Fishburne to reprise his role as Morpheus.

Regardless, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be back as Neo and Trinity despite their apparent deaths in The Matrix Revolutions. Jada Pinkett Smith and Lambert Wilson have also signed on to reprise their respective roles as Niobe and The Merovingian.
Recent Emmy-winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II headlines the cast of newcomers, which also includes Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Henwick, Ibarra,, Toby Onwumere, Brian J. Smith, Eréndira Ibarra, Andrew Caldwell, and Ellen Hollman.
The Matrix 4 will hit theaters on April 1, 2022.
