The long-gestating Uncharted movie seemed like it was finally going to start filming in Europe next month. However, the spread of Coronavirus has everyone on edge, and the adaptation of Naughty Dog’s hit video game series is the latest project to fall victim to postponement. Variety brings word that Sony is delaying Uncharted’s production schedule.
Uncharted was planning to kick off its shoot in Berlin. But now, the cast and crew have to wait at least six additional weeks to start. This will probably disappointment fans of the video games, especially since the film made fresh headway in the casting process earlier this month. Antonio Banderas, Tati Gabrielle, and Sophia Ali just signed on to play supporting roles in the movie. Their characters remain unknown, but they’ll star opposite Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg’s Sully.

Uncharted is no stranger to delays at this point. Before Ruben Fleischer came onboard to helm the project, the film routinely made headlines for its series of directorial shakeups. But of course, the COVID-19 pandemic is a situation with far graver implications, and it’s affecting other major Hollywood releases as well. Among other films, The Matrix 4 and The Batman were both recently forced to shut down production due to concerns over the disease.
It’s still not clear if Uncharted will keep its March 5, 2021 release date in light of this new development.
