There’s no escape from the impact of the novel coronavirus, and neither Neo nor Batman are immune. Via Variety, The Matrix 4 is the latest big budget film to go on hold due to the current pandemic.
According to the report, Warner Bros. executives “thought it was the best move for the safety of all involved to delay the shoot indefinitely.” The Matrix sequel began filming in San Francisco last month, before moving to Berlin. The United States’ European travel ban also played a role in the studio’s decision to halt production. Additionally, there’s no indication when filming will resume or if the delay will affect The Matrix 4‘s 2021 release.

Over the weekend, The Batman was also placed on hold for two weeks. Via Deadline, Warner Bros. also released a statement about the film’s production.
“Warner Bros. Pictures feature production of The Batman will be on a two-week hiatus starting today. The studio will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
The Batman has a June 25, 2021 release date in place. However, it’s unclear if an extended filming delay will push that date back. Warner Bros. has also placed Fantastic Beasts 3 on hold, only a few days before it was set to begin filming.
