Netflix Plans The Witcher Animated Film, Nightmare of the Wolf

Netflix isn’t wasting any time with expanding the tale of The Witcher. In addition to the upcoming a second season, Netflix has confirmed a new animated Witcher film is in the works. It’s called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, and it will feature the work of Korean animation team Studio Mir; which previously worked on Netflix’s  Voltron: Legendary Defender series. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who serves as showrunner for the live-action series, is on board to direct.

Hissrich, alongside producer Beau DeMayo, provided a hint of what direction the story will take. “The world of The Witcher expands in this anime film that explores a powerful new threat facing the Continent,” said Hissrich and DeMayo in a statement. No further details are available just yet. There’s also no word if Henry Cavill or other actors from the show will reprise their roles.

There had been rumors about potentially spinning off The Witcher into a separate animated film. Back in October, a page appeared on the Writers Guild of America site, which revealed that Nightmare of the Wolf had been registered.

Although Netflix hasn’t set a date for Nightmare of the Wolf, there’s a possibility it could debut before the second season of The Witcher in 2021. In the meantime, the first season is available now on Netflix.
