Spider-Man Star Says He Hasn’t Begun Voice Recording Beyond the Spider-Verse Yet

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has just received another disappointing update.

Eight months after the third and final installment in the animated Spider-Verse trilogy was originally set to hit theaters, voice actor Jharrel Jerome has offered an update on the hotly-anticipated Marvel movie. Speaking with Screen Rant, the actor shared that he has not begun voice recording for Beyond yet, suggesting that the movie isn’t as far along as fans would like it to be.

“I haven’t [begun voice recording], but I also can’t really say so much more because, you know, that’s such a tight-knit ship. I don’t even know much,” he admitted to Screen Rant. “I’m as much in the dark as you, but I’m excited to get back into it and see what they’re thinking, especially involving my character. That was such a badass twist to the last one.”

Who does Jharrel Jerome voice in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse?

In the Spider-Verse movies, Jerome voices Miles Morales of Earth-42, making his first appearance in 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. His debut as Miles G. Morales/Prowler came in the closing moments of Across the Spider-Verse, where he and his Uncle Aaron confront Shameik Moore’s Miles of Earth-1610/Spider-Man, who has unknowingly traveled to Earth-42 while escaping the Spider-Man 2099 and the Spider-Society.

Beyond the Spider-Verse was first announced (under its original title Across the Spider-Verse Part Two) alongside Across the Spider-Verse, with both movies serving as a two-part sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. With a March 2024 release date for Beyond set, fans believed the movie was well into production ahead of Across the Spider-Verse’s release. However, in July 2023, Beyond was removed from Sony’s release calendar, leading some fans to question what was going on behind the scenes.

After a lack of updates, insider Jeff Sneider reported in September 2024 that Sony had scrapped much of the existing work on Beyond due to “creative” reasons. This was followed by a report from Phase Hero’s Brandon Davis in November 2024, who claimed that Beyond’s release is “very far off” as Sony “didn’t have the ending” when the studio decided to restart the Beyond script, confirming Sneider’s earlier report Sony had started from scratch on the animated sequel.

At this time, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse does not have a release date and it is unclear exactly when the movie might hit theaters.
