Illfonic Reveals Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Multiplayer Game

In 2009, Ghostbusters: The Video Game reunited Ernie Hudson, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Murray for a pseudo-sequel to the films. But now that we’re in the post-Ghostbusters: Afterlife world, Hudson and Aykroyd are passing the torch to the new generation. Earlier today, Illfonic, the company behind Predator: Hunting Grounds and Friday the 13th: The Game, announced Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, a new asymmetrical multiplayer title.

Within the trailer below, Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore restarts the Ghostbusters. If you recall the post-credits scene of Afterlife, Winston was wildly successful in his life after the team broke up. Additionally, Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz is still running his occult book store, which can be a resource for players. However, it’s up to the players to form a new Ghostbusters team, with one player slated to play the ghost.

Essentially, the player-controlled team of Ghostbusters has to use every tool at their disposal to capture the player-controlled ghost.  The settings include hotels, banks, museums, prisons, and more. And as you can see from the trailer, it was clearly inspired by the hotel scene in the first film.

Spirits Unleashed will also have alternate modes that let players control the ghost against an A.I. team. Conversely, four players can contend with an A.I. ghost. The primary focus of the game is on teamwork, rather than competition.

Illfonic will release Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Epic Games Store later this year.
