Ex-Telltale Developers Unveil Star Trek: Resurgence Narrative Adventure Game

There were a lot of surprises at The Game Awards, but one of the biggest shocks belonged to Dramatic Labs. This small indie developer of former Telltale Games employees have previously worked on Telltale’s Batman, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. And for their first game, Dramatic Labs is taking on the Star Trek universe. To go with that announcement, Dramatic Labs released the first trailer for Star Trek: Resurgence, a new narrative adventure that should be familiar to anyone who ever loved the Telltales format.

Resurgence takes place in 2380, shortly after the Star Trek: The Next Generation movies. For this game, players assume the roles of two characters on the U.S.S. Resolute. First Officer Jara Rydek is a young woman on the cusp of earning her own command, while Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz still has a lot to learn. Through their eyes, players will uncover “a sinister mystery involving two alien civilizations on the brink of war.” There are also some familiar faces from the past, including Ambassador Spock himself.

According to the game’s official site, it “will be familiar to fans of Telltale’s unique style of gameplay. But it also brings some welcome additions and refinements from Dramatic Labs.” Additionally, the game will let players fly shuttles, go on stealth missions, and use their tricorders and phasers when necessary. Branching dialogue chains will also allow the players to forge relationships and choose the path of their characters.

Star Trek: Resurgence will hit PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Epic Store in spring 2022.
