Marvel’s Avengers Motion Comic Sets Up War For Wakanda

In just one week, Marvel’s Avengers will add Black Panther to its playable roster with War for Wakanda. The new story expansion pits T’Challa against his deadliest enemy Ulysses Klaue, who arrives at Wakanda’s doorstep with an army of soldiers and advanced technology. And thanks to a new animated short, gamers can get caught up on their decades-old feud. Check it out for yourself below.

The video is narrated by Zawavari, a Wakandan shaman and one of T’Challa’s most loyal advisors. Zawavari traces his king’s war with Klaue’s back to the very beginning, before either of them were even born. He recalls that Klaue’s father attempted to stage his own coup against Wakanda during World War II. Luckily, T’Challa’s father, T’Chaka, was able to stop him with a little help from a not-yet-frozen Captain America.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the end of their families’ rivalry. Their descendants would eventually take up arms and continue the bloodshed for years to come. But in spite of their differences, Zawavari observes that both T’Challa and Klaue are sons without fathers, which makes them more driven in their crusades. This is especially true in the case of T’Challa, who “watched his father die at the hands of those he trusted most,” and now isolates himself from the rest of his kingdom, including his own family. Regardless, if his sense of trust isn’t restored, it could spell Wakanda’s doom.

Black Panther: War for Wakanda will be available to download starting next Tuesday, August 17. Square Enix will also reveal new details about the expansion during a special War Table presentation on August 16 at 10am PT.
