If Mike Colter ever returns to the MCU as Luke Cage, he has several goals for his character.
What did Mike Colter say about Luke Cage’s return?
Colter appeared as Luke Cage in several Marvel shows on Netflix, with Jessica Jones Season 1 marking his first appearance as the Harlem-based superhero with superhuman strength and unbreakable skin. Colter reprised his role for two seasons of Luke Cage and one season of The Defenders. In October 2018, Netflix canceled Luke Cage after two seasons.
Cage has not appeared as Luke Cage since the show’s cancellation. With Disney now controlling Marvel’s Netflix properties, a return for Luke Cage is a possibility. Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones are set to appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. If Marvel will have him, Colter is definitely interested in returning as Luke Cage.
“Look, I mean, here’s the thing: I have been talking to Marvel, and Jessica [Jones]’ back, and there’s a lot of story left to tell, and I just think that it’d be a shame for me not to pop back up,” Colter told The Direct.
If Colter gets his wish, he would like to explore what happens to his character after the Luke Cage Season 2 finale, where he became the unofficial sheriff of Harlem.
“I definitely would want to see him find out what it’s like to have the power and complete control of the neighborhood and see if he can do the right thing and, at the same time, keep his hands from getting dirty,” Colter said.
The most logical return for Luke Cage would be in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, which is expected to arrive in 2027. However, Colter is open to all MCU opportunities.
“Obviously, there’s Jessica Jones, where they left off,” Cage added. “There’s where Luke Cage’s second season left off, there’s opportunities to come into Daredevil’s world, and there’s story for Iron Fist. There’s just so many places you can go.”
