Brendan Gleeson has joined the cast of Spider-Noir.
Spider-Noir is the new upcoming Spider-Man Noir live-action series starring Nicolas Cage. A premiere date has not yet been set for Spider-Noir, though it’s known the series will first debut domestically on MGM+ before later coming to Amazon Prime Video.
Per Variety, Gleeson has now joined the cast of Spider-Noir. Character details remain under wraps at this time, though Variety notes that he’s “reportedly play the show’s villain.”
Gleeson was recently nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Colm Doherty in 2022’s The Banshees of Inisherin. He’s also starred in movies such as 1995’s Braveheart, 2000’s Mission: Impossible 2, 2002’s 28 Days Later, 2008’s In Bruges, 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow, 2017’s Paddington 2, 2021’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, and more. He additionally plays Mad-Eye Moody in the Harry Potter franchise.
Gleeson will next be seen playing an undisclosed character in Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, which is currently in post-production and will be released in United States theaters on October 4, 2024.
What else do we know about Amazon’s Spider-Noir series?
The logline says the series “ tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”
It is also known that New Girl’s Lamorne Morris will be playing Robbie Robertson in Spider-Noir. Cage is reprising the role he played in animated form in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot serve as co-showrunners and executive producers on the series. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal also serve as executive producers, as does Harry Bardbeer, who additionally directs the first two episodes.
