Amandla Stenberg has shared some new details about The Acolyte.
Speaking with C Magazine, Stenberg shared how The Acolyte will honor the “ethos” of Star Wars and explore various “conceptions” around the Force.
“In the context of the Star Wars universe, it’s a time of great peace, theoretically,” Stenberg said. “It’s also a time of an institution, and it’s a time in which conceptions around the Force are very strict. And I think what we’re trying to explore within our show is when an institution has a singular conception of how power can be used…we try to provide a lot of different perspectives and answers to that question. The idea is to kind of honor the ethos of Star Wars and ideas around the Force and also challenge them, hopefully harmoniously.”
Who is Amandla Stenberg playing in The Acolyte?
Stenberg is playing a former padawan in The Acoylte, though not much else is known about her character at the time. The series also stars Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss, Margarita Levieva, Joonas Suotamo, and Amy Tsang.
The series will be set in Star Wars’ High Republic era, which is approximately 100 years before the events of 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.
Stenberg said of her experience filming the series, “The crews are so hardcore, they’re so hardworking, and it’s very kind of hierarchical and competitive, and people work their asses off. It’s very different, I think, than what I’ve experienced on most American sets.”
The Acolyte comes from creator and showrunner Leslye Headland. It will have eight episodes in total, with Headland, Garcia Lopez, and Kogonada directing episodes of the series.
According to Collider, The Acolyte is reportedly expected to premiere on Disney+ on June 5, 2024.
