Stellan Skarsgård Gives Andor Season 2 Update: ‘I’m Satisfied’

Stellan Skarsgård says he’s happy with where his Star Wars character, Luthen Rael, ends up in the second season of Disney+’s Andor.

Speaking with Gizmodo, Skarsgård provided a brief update on Andor Season 2, which recently wrapped filming. While he couldn’t say much about where the story goes in the upcoming season, Skarsgård did say he was “satisfied” with how things play out for his character.

“I’m satisfied where it goes, yeah,” he said. “It’s such good writing and it’s Tony Gilroy, I really like to say his lines.”

Andor Season 2 initially began filming in November 2022. The second season of the Star Wars series was eyeing a 2024 release; however, production was delayed in 2023 because of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes.

Filming resumed in early January 2024. Andor Season 2 is now expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2025.

What else do we know about Andor Season 2?

Like the first season, Andor Season 2 will have 12 episodes. The new season will lead up to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with the final three episodes being set just a few days before the events of the 2016 movie.

Gilroy told Empire Magazine in April 2023, “Look, man, I’m not trying to make a career here; if anything I’m on the downhill side of a long career. But this is an opportunity. This is 1,500 pages of the most dynamic material in these people’s lives to deal with. We got it right the first time, and you don’t want to let your foot off the gas.”

Along with Skarsgård, Andor stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Kyle Soller as Syril Karn, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Denise Gough as Dedra Meero, Faye Marsay as Vel Sartha, Varada Sethu as Cinta Kaz, and Fiona Shaw as Maarva Andor.

The first season of Andor is currently streaming on Disney+.
