Last week on The Last of Us, the original Joel, Troy Baker, made a guest appearance as James. This Sunday, in the season finale, the original Ellie, Ashley Johnson, will get her chance. Via Deadline, HBO has released the first picture of Johnson as Anna Williams, Ellie’s mother.
Within the lore of The Last of Us video games, Anna died shortly after giving birth to Ellie, who never knew her mother. Anna was also known to be a friend of Marlene, the leader of the Fireflies. Although Anna’s backstory was largely unexplored in the games, Deadline speculates that the season finale will divulge new info about her,

In addition to voicing Ellie in both The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II, Johnson is a renowned voice actress and one of the founding cast members of Critical Role. She also provides the voice of Pike in The Legend of Vox Machina. Her previous live-action roles include parts in Blindspot, The Help, The Killing, and Growing Pains.
The Last of Us season 1 finale will premiere on Sunday, March 12. HBO has already renewed the show for a second season. However, it’s unclear when production will begin on season 2.
