Star Trek: Lower Decks Sets an August Premiere Date For Season 3

The crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is finally coming back to Paramount+ for more animated adventures. It’s been nine months since Star Trek: Lower Decks ended its second season with a shocking cliffhanger. But thankfully, it won’t be much longer before the series resumes its transmission. Paramount+ has announced that Lower Decks season 3 is launching on Thursday, August 25.

Paramount+ confirmed the release date by sharing new key art for the upcoming episodes. Fittingly enough, the latest promo for the series pays homage to the iconic poster for 1984’s Star Trek III: The Search For Spock. But in place of Leonard Nimoy’s Vulcan, we see the floating blue head of Ensign Samanthan Rutherford, all while Ensign Tendi, Beckett Mariner, and Brad Boimler gaze up at him in horror. You can check it out for yourself below.

Season 2 of Lower Decks ended with Captain Carol Freeman getting arrested for setting off a bomb on the Pakled Planet, an action for which she was most likely framed. The previous season also brought back Star Trek legends Jonathan Frakes (The Next Generation) and Robert Duncan McNeill (Voyager) as William Riker and Tom Paris, respectively. Additionally, Alice Krige reprised her Star Trek: First Contact role as the Borg Queen. It remains to be seen whether the new season will feature any more familiar characters. Regardless, the producers have plenty of time to squeeze in as many special guests as they want. Earlier this year, Paramount+ gave Lower Decks an early season 4 renewal.

New episodes of Star Trek: Lower Decks will air every Thursday on Paramount+.
