The last time that Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury made an appearance in the MCU it was for a post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home. For reasons that have yet to be revealed, Fury was on a Skrull starship somewhere in space. There was a nod to this in Spider-Man: No Way Home when Damage Control revealed that Fury had been off-world for a year. Marvel’s Secret Invasion series will finally provide some answers about what Fury has been up to. However, Jackson recently revealed that he’s more excited about his new series because it allows him to explore different aspects of Fury’s character. Nick Fury’s future.
Via ComingSoon, Jackson told EW that he learned new things about Fury on his upcoming show. Jackson also indicated that the show shed some light on what happened during the five-year period when half of the universe’s population was snapped out of existence by Thanos.
“There are things that even I really didn’t know about Nick Fury that I just found out,” said Jackson. “The minds behind what happened during the Blip are fantastic. That’s part of what we’re uncovering when we do this series now.”

“[It’s] giving me an opportunity to explore something other than the badassery of who Nick Fury is,” added Jackson. “I’ve had a good time doing that, and I’m looking forward to people sharing that aspect of who he is when this series does happen.”
Ben Mendelsohn will co-star in Secret Invasion as Talos, with Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, and Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes. Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo will also co-star in the series.
Marvel Studios hasn’t set a date for Secret Invasion, but a 2023 premiere on Disney+ seems likely.
