Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Moon Knight episode 6! Jeremy Slater
You may have noticed the name Jake Lockley trending on social media after every episode of Moon Knight. Fans of Marvel’s comics were already well-aware that Jake is the third persona of Moon Knight along with Marc Spector and Steven Grant. There were also several clues about Jake’s existence throughout the season. However, the final reveal didn’t come up episode 6’s post-credits scene, which introduced Jake as Khonshu’s most loyal avatar. He’s the man who has no problem killing in the name of Khonshu, unlike Steven or Marc.
According to Moon Knight head writer Jeremy Slater, the plan was to always bring in Jake at some point. But he noted that the creative team wasn’t always sure if the hints were too obvious or not enough to earn the reveal.
“We knew right from the beginning that fans were going to be on the lookout for references and clues that Jake Lockley is going to appear in the show,” said Slater during an interview with Marvel.com. “It was really just a balancing act that definitely involved my team of writers, but also involved the directors, the executives, and ultimately, all the way up to Kevin Feige, in terms of how many breadcrumbs are we dropping? Is this a satisfying reveal? Are we telegraphing it too much? Or are we not telegraphing enough?”
In the end, Slater said they focused on “everyone else who’s totally unfamiliar with the character and the dynamic” in order to ensure that “the mystery works as satisfying for the newcomers to the Moon Knight story.”

Oscar Isaac also noted that it was his idea to portray Jake as a Spanish speaker, in part to make him seem more in control than Marc or Steven.
“I saw an opportunity to bring something of myself to it that’s not just trying to pay service to some idea that was in the comics,” said Isaac. “The thought of, ‘He’s just going to have the one line that he speaks, it should be in Spanish.’ There’s something that’s ominous about him, the kind of control that he has versus, you know, both Marc and Steven that have been so off foot. It just feels like it was just a really fun chance to let the instinct of, after having played these two guys, imagining what else could be in there and the excitement of shooting that scene.”
Director Mohamed Diab added that “This isn’t Marc. So just imagine what’s to come. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with the third completely different character with a completely different background.”
For now, Marvel hasn’t offered any hints about when or if Moon Knight will return. All six episodes are currently streaming on Disney+.
