Tim Gabriel Cast as Obsidian in Stargirl Season 3

In the last season of The CW’s Stargirl, Jennie-Lynn Hayden arrived in Blue Valley in search of her missing twin brother, Todd. And later this year, Jennie-Lynn’s quest will come to an end. Entertainment Weekly brings word that Tim Gabriel will play Todd Rice in Stargirl season 3.

According to his character description, Todd has been living on the streets and, just like Jennie (Ysa Penarejo), he’s been looking for his sibling as well. Comic fans may recall that Jennie and Todd are the children of Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern. Todd also wields his own “strange and controllable shadow abilities,” which eventually leads him to adopt the superhero persona of Obsidian.

In the comics, Todd has been both a hero and a villain. But in Stargirl’s re-telling of his origins, Todd will run afoul of The Helix Institute for Youth Rehabilitation. The organization’s leader, Mr. Bones (Keith David), was memorably introduced at the end of Stargirl season 2 finale. And apparently, Mr. Bones is “determined to understand Todd’s powers.”

Gabriel previously had guest-starring roles on shows like S.W.A.T. and Better Things. Next up, he’s set to appear in two indie features: The Death That Awaits and Tomorrow. Additionally, EW confirms that Stargirl will honor Todd’s LGBTQ status from the comics.

Stargirl season 3 will premiere sometime this summer on The CW.
