HBO Max’s Titans Casts Three New Villains For Season 4

After redeeming Jason Todd and vanqushing Scarecrow last year, the Titans will face even deadlier challenges in season 4. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers have cast Joseph Morgan, Franka Potente, and Lisa Ambalavanar to play new villainous characters when the series returns on HBO Max.

Morgan (The Vampire Diaries) will star as Sebastian Blood, a.k.a. Brother Blood, whose comic appearances date back to Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’s New Teen Titans run in 1982. The original incarnation of this character, Sebastian Blood VIII, was introduced as the latest in a long line of High Priests who led the Church of Blood. He was also an emissary to Raven’s father, Trigon. However, it sounds like Titans might be handling him differently. His breakdown describes him as “introverted and intelligent with a hidden, darker nature.”

Potente (Claws) is playing May Bennett/Mother Mayhem, one of the Church of Blood’s highest-ranking members. She is a “predator in human form with an unfettered belief in her mission in the world.” In the comics, May was also the mother of Sebastian Blood IX. This character later inherited his namesake’s followers and became the Church’s new leader.

Morgan and Potente will be series regulars in Titans’ next season, while Ambalavanar (The A List) will recur as Jinx. Wolfman and artist Chuck Patton introduced Jinx in the mid-’80s. She is probably best known as the Fearsome Five’s leader who could command the elements and manipulate magical energy. On Titans, she will appear as “a quick-witted criminal loner and a master of dark magic with a joy for manipulating others and creating chaos while doing it.”

Some of these characters have previously shown up on TV in one form or another. Jinx and Brother Blood both appeared on the original Teen Titans animated series as well as Teen Titans Go!. Additionally, Brother Blood was the main antagonist in 2017’s Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, and also appeared in live-action on Arrow, played by Kevin Alejandro.

HBO Max still hasn’t announced a premiere date for Titans season 4.
