It’s been 11 years since the last sequel to American McGee’s Alice video game, but the franchise may soon have new life as a live-action series. Via The Hollywood Reporter, David Hayter has signed on to write and executive produce Alice as as TV series. Hayter has previously written scripts for X-Men, X2, Watchmen, and Warrior Nun. He is also known as the original voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid video games.
McGee’s first Alice game was released in 2000 through EA, and it it loosely took its inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. Within the world of the game, Alice loses her parents in a fire and slips into a catatonic state for years. When the White Rabbit calls Alice back to Wonderland, she discovers that it has been transformed by her trauma into a dark reflection of itself. The sequel, Alice: Madness Returns, was released in 2011.
“American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns game series is a groundbreaking reimagining of the classic tale,” said Hayter in a statement. “It takes you into the heart of a corrupted Wonderland and throws light into shadowy corners the world has never seen. I am beyond excited to bring this world of madness and wonder to a global audience.”

McGee also offered a statement of his own to welcome Hayter to the franchise.
“David Hayter brings imagination, experience, and stealth sneaking skills gained through successful missions in film, TV, and video games – a unique combination sure to make this adventure into Wonderland a successful one for the franchise and the fans. I am excited to be working with him and know the Alice fans will welcome him with mad affection.”
The new Alice adaptation is being produced by EA in partnership with Abandon Entertainment. At the moment, this project doesn’t have a network or a streaming service behind it.
