Michael B. Jordan’s long-in-the-works Val-Zod project has finally landed a pair of writers to pen the title character’s live-action debut. Deadline is reporting that frequent collaborators Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters will tackle the new Val-Zod miniseries for HBO Max.
Metayer and Peters recently penned the screenplay for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, based on an earlier draft by Obi-Wan Kenobi head writer Joby Harold. However, they also have a number of other film and TV projects currently in development. After making waves with their pilot for an original series called American Snow, they eventually began working on a new pilot for a show based on the Carthaginian general Hannibal, which has already been picked up at AppleTV+ with Rise of the Beasts helmer Steven Caple Jr. set to direct. Metayer and Peters also sold their screenplay for The Nola to Amazon, with Sam Raimi directing.
Writer Tom Taylor and artists Nicola Scott and Robson Rocha introduced Val-Zod as the Superman of Earth-2 in 2014. Like Clark Kent, he was a survivor of Krypton’s explosion. But in his universe, Val didn’t become the new Man of Steel until his predecessor, Kal-El, was killed.

Jordan is executive producing the upcoming series adaptation through his Outlier Society banner alongside Elizabeth Raposo. It’s unclear if Jordan plans on starring as Val-Zod himself once cameras actually start rolling. Regardless, he definitely has the star power, charisma, and physique to able to pull it off.
HBO Max hasn’t announced a release date for Val-Zod.
