Marvel’s Hit-Monkey Animated Series Will Premiere In November

Over two years ago, Marvel TV announced a deal to bring Hit-Monkey, M.O.D.O.K., and two other animated series to Hulu. However, Howard the Duck, and the Tigra, and Dazzler animated series were cancelled while in development. Regardless, Hit-Monkey will soon join M.O.D.O.K. on Hulu.

Via Entertainment Weekly, Hit-Monkey will debut on November 17. The character was created by Daniel Way and artist Dalibor Talajić in 2010. Josh Gordon and Will Speck created the series, which also takes some liberties with Hit-Monkey’s origin.

In the series, the Japanese snow macaque destined to become Hit-Monkey lives peacefully until he encounters a wounded hitman named Bryce (Jason Sudeikis). After nursing Bryce back to health, Hit-Monkey is unable to prevent his demise. Therefore, Hit-Monkey decides to become an assassin, while Bryce’s ghost remains in this world to advise him.

Within the comics, Hit-Monkey was distrustful of the injured assassin, and definitely not his friend. Instead, it was Hit-Monkey’s clan that took in the assassin. The assassin’s former associates later killed the man and the monkey clan; which led Hit-Monkey to seek revenge. The “ghost” of Bryce is an invention for the show, presumably to give Hit-Monkey a supporting cast that he doesn’t have in the Marvel universe.
