In just a few days, Marvel Studios will launch WandaVision, but we still have lots of questions about how Kevin Feige and his team plan on structuring their upcoming slate of small-screen projects. The last few years haven’t exactly been short on Marvel series, with heroes popping up on Netflix, Hulu, and Freeform. But unlike those shows, Feige says the next generation of Marvel programming isn’t beholden to traditional TV formats.
In the case of past Marvel series, fans could usually count on full seasons consisting of 10-13 hour-long episodes. However, this didn’t always work to the benefit of every show, particularly when it came to Marvel’s Netflixverse. Critics occasionally pointed out how those shows had the tendency to lose steam midway through a season. Fortunately, it sounds like the Disney+ series will prioritize telling a tight story over hitting a predetermined episode count.
“Well, we’re looking a little differently,” Feige recently told Collider. “We’re looking at it as developing them as either six hour-episodes, or nine or 10 half-hour episodes. So, for instance, WandaVision started that way and Falcon and the Winter Soldier as 30 minutes, but because it’s streaming, it’s Disney+, and the rules have blurred over the years, yes. Some can be 23 minutes. Some can be much longer than that. But She-Hulk, for instance, is being developed as 10 30-minute episodes. Some will be longer and some will be shorter. Loki, [and] Falcon and the Winter Soldier [are] being developed as six 40-50-minute episodes.”

Last week, Marvel confirmed that WandaVision’s first season will consist of nine episodes. Most of these will hover around the half-hour range. Feige previously revealed that She-Hulk will be a “half-hour legal comedy,” so the shorter runtimes don’t come as a surprise. Additionally, Feige confirmed that Moon Knight’s first season will also air as six hour-long installments.
WandaVision will premiere its first two episodes on Disney+ this Friday. It will be followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in March and Loki in May.
