The Mandalorian is far from the only Star Wars project coming to Disney+. Earlier this year, Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland signed on to create female-led Star Wars series. Now, via ComingSoon, Headland’s new interview with Fantastic Frankey shed some new light on her plans for the show.
One of the big takeaways from the interview is Headland’s contention that her show will explore brand new territory in the Star Wars universe.
“I would say it’s in a pocket of the universe and a pocket of the timeline that we don’t know much about,” said Headland. “I kind of see, if Star Wars is a religion, I like to think of my show as a tent revival. You can come over if you want to. We’re going to be talking about some cool stuff…There’s going to be some things we haven’t discussed in the canon yet. There are going to be some characters you don’t know about.”

She also noted that the Indiana Jones films played a large role in shaping her pitch.
“For me, it’s less about going through the Star Wars universe cinematically or artistically, I’m actually kind of combing through it geographically and go on a literal journey,” said Headland. “When we were pitching, I had my designer create that Indiana Jones-like “we go here and then we go here,” with the little dotted red line like this is our journey, this is where we’re going.”
So far, all we know about the series is that is a female-centric action thriller with martial arts elements. It’s also reportedly set in a new part of the Star Wars timeline.
