Earlier this week, Stargirl added Nick Tarabay and Jonathan Cake to its cast as villains for the upcoming second season, leading fans to believe that production would be starting soon. However, filming is already underway. The official Stargirl Twitter account has posted new set pics that show Brec Bassinger and Amy Smart back in character as Courtney Whitmore and her mom, Barbara. This news comes two days after Tarabay and Cake joined the series as Eclipso and The Shade, respectively. Their casting also provides more evidence that Stargirl takes place outside the Arrowverse, since both actors have shown up on other DC series on The CW before. Tarabay guest-starred on three episodes of Arrow as Captain Boomerang, while Cake played Blackbeard on two episodes of Legends of Tomorrow. Additionally, the series producers have cast Ysa Penarejo as an unspecified DC character.

Stargirl’s first season ended on an upbeat note with Courtney celebrating Christmas with her family. Regardless, the finale teased some of the surprises that she and her Justice Sociatey teammates will confront in season 2. It looks like Dragon King’s daughter, Cindy Burman, will be the one to free Eclipso from his diamond prison. Plus, Courtney and Pat Dugan will encounter the original Starman, Sylvester Pemberton, who has somehow returned from the dead
Stargirl season 2 will premiere on The CW in 2021.
